It has been two months since our restaurant was destroyed by fire on the early morning of November 9th, 2009. This week Everett Police announced they now believe the cause of the fire was arson, due to ‘forensic evidence’ they have gathered. We look forward to getting more details and, hopefully, finding who was responsible.
About half of our restaurant staff have found new jobs. Because the restaurant had “business interruption” insurance coverage, we were able to continue payroll benefits for all employees who had not been re-employed through the holidays. Of course, this insurance does not cover gratuities, only hourly wages paid. We greatly appreciate the generous outreach from many of our friends and customers to assist in this transition.
This week we are beginning the process of demolishing the burned out building so we can remove the ‘eye sore’ from the neighborhood. We are still working with our insurance company representatives and making plans to rebuild the restaurant. This process will likely take between 8 and 11 months, if everything goes well. We are modifying our original building somewhat, making necessary building code changes, and hope to enter the building permit process soon. Stay tuned.
